Blair Warren said it best: “People will do anything for those who encourage their dreams, justify their failures, allay their fears, confirm their suspicions, and help them throw rocks at their enemies”. This quote resonates with me because it highlights the importance of supporting and encouraging others.
The first step in gaining a supporter, follower, or friend is encouraging their dreams. I find it satisfying to help others achieve their dreams, and I believe in the power of potential. When I became a manager, I encouraged my team to learn more and cross-train in other areas. I did not know at the time that I was encouraging their dreams.
The next step is to justify their failures. As a certified strength coach, I am trained to help others identify their top talents and turn them into strengths. This allows them to reframe their failures as a result of not using their strengths. Coaching also helps individuals decrease their fears of not being the best. They learn that they are the best version of themselves.
The last two steps are the icing on the cake: allaying someone’s fears and throwing rocks at their enemies. This can be as simple as providing reassurance and support. While I have never thrown rocks at someone else’s enemies, I am not opposed to it (Nah, that is not my style).
In conclusion, supporting and encouraging others is a powerful tool that can lead to success and fulfillment for both parties. So go out there and encourage someone’s dreams, justify their failures, allay their fears, confirm their suspicions, and help them throw rocks at their enemies.
