Lessons Learned From a Career in Leadership and Education

As Jack Welch said: “Before you are a leader, success is all about growing yourself. When you become a leader, success is all about growing others.” At this time in my life, I care more about growing others. This means that I continue to grow myself because I cannot help others get better if I do not get better myself. A majority of my professional career has been based on helping others grow. I am now focused on how to help an entire organization pursue excellence. In addition, I have been a professor for a few years now. I am doing what I love.

Introduction

Pursuing excellence is a lifelong journey that requires constant dedication and growth. Throughout my career in leadership and education, I have learned a lot about what it takes to achieve excellence both personally and as a team. In this blog post, I will share some of my insights and lessons learned that can help you and your organization pursue excellence.

The Importance of Personal Growth

As Jack Welch said, before you can be a leader, you must grow yourself. This means that pursuing excellence starts with personal growth and development. This involves constant learning, self-reflection, and a willingness to push yourself out of your comfort zone. As you grow and improve yourself, you will become better equipped to help others grow and improve as well.

Helping Others Grow

As a leader, your success is no longer about your personal growth but about growing others. This requires a deep understanding of your team’s strengths, weaknesses, and motivations. It also requires a willingness to invest in your team by providing them with the resources, support, and guidance they need to succeed. As you help your team grow and develop, you will create a culture of excellence that will benefit your organization as a whole.

Pursuing Organizational Excellence

Pursuing excellence is not just about personal and team growth but about building a culture of excellence throughout your organization. This requires a clear vision and a commitment to continuous improvement. It also requires a willingness to listen to feedback, make necessary changes, and hold yourself and your team accountable for achieving the highest standards of excellence.

Conclusion

Pursuing excellence is a challenging but rewarding journey that requires commitment, hard work, and a willingness to learn and grow. By focusing on personal growth, helping others grow, and pursuing organizational excellence, you can create a culture of excellence that will benefit yourself, your team, and your organization. Remember, as Jack Welch said, “Before you are a leader, success is all about growing yourself. When you become a leader, success is all about growing others.”

If you’re ready to pursue excellence and take your career or organization to the next level, I encourage you to take the first step today. Whether it’s committing to personal growth, investing in your team, or pursuing organizational excellence, the journey starts with a single step.
